Oh what do you do in the summertime...

... when all the world is green (or brown, in our case)? Do you swim in a pool, to keep yourself cool, or swing in a tree up high? Do you march in parades, or drink lemonades, or count all the stars in the sky? Is that what you do? So do I!

We tried out the new pool at the Community Center down the street, and Maddie loved the kiddie pool! I think we will be frequent visitors in the next few months.

Maddie's hair is getting so long and I don't know what to do with it lately! We tried real pig tails the other day and I thought they were SOOOO cute!

But really, what do you do in the summer to keep a toddler busy and happy? Maddie loves playing outside, which is limited for us by the heat and lack of a yard. We did get a little kiddie pool to play in on the driveway, and we will be swimming a lot.

We are looking forward to a trip to Idaho to visit my parents in a few weeks, and we always love the 4th of July in Provo. But on a daily basis we do get bored! I would love to hear your ideas.

Too bad you don't have a yard... the sprinklers on low were a big hit for you guys...and the slip n' slide. Have you taken her little princess car out to the driveway? I remember you girls pushing Cole up and down the patio, and then he learned to push himself. Then it was on to big wheels. I think you must have driven the neighbors crazy because they were so loud.
I could just come and kiss her all day to keep her busy!

Love the pig tails! I just hope that by the time Laney goes to prom she has hair.

You can do what we do during the summer...a whole lot of nothing!

Isn't it fun to do Maddie's hair! I love tyring new things with Ava's. Ok, so I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who gets bored on a day to day basis. I'm really into schedules though so I've been thinking of sticking to a schedule for story time, toy time, Ava alone playing time (which I think is important for her creative and imagination developement- and for my sanity), and then a little something new every now and then time. I got a big poster board a while back that I've been thinking getting out and taping to the kitchen floor and then letting her color on it to learn how to hold crayons and stuff better. We also like bubbles, and I have her help me with chores. She loved to close the dryer door, put clothes in the basket, and push the vaccum and broom. I swear it isn't child labor- she likes it! Anyways, hope that helps. I'd love to hear what other ideas you get though.

Swimming and playing outside pretty much sums us up too. Do you have a public library close by? Lots of times they will offer a music and movement class or storytime. My kids love those. My poor boys hopefully will not be completely neglected this summer with the new baby comming. I did go buy a double stroller so we can go on walks, but I'm already getting tired just thinking about entertaining three!

Maddie is getting so big and is just so cute! We usually try to do outdoor stuff first thing in the morning, before it's too hot. We like to hit the park or a pool. I also bought a pass to Thanksgiving Point where we can do the Gardens, Farm Country or the Dino Museum. Do they have something like that in Vegas? We like Story Time at the library too. Good luck keeping cool! :)

Cute piggies Maddie! I love it! Too bad Lilly doesn't have as much hair as Sophia did. It will be awhile before she gets piggies. Let me know what you find about how to keep kids entertained during the summer. I'm actually way happy that our yard is in and I think we'll be getting a little pool too and we'll be spending plenty of time in it! Good luck and enjoy the heat!

Hi, Miss Lauren! :) Maddie is SO cute. My favorite thing to do with Ava's hair too! Sometimes I add a headband, which she gets to choose (a bow, flower, or sparklies). Do you have movie passes? They do them here at the Cinema for all the kids- they're 1.50 per movie- like Ice Age, and Happy Feet and stuff. I bought the ticket packet for 6 bucks and they go each week all summer... On days when it's rainy (or too hot for you) that's what we do. Maybe play with a tent inside? We have one my kids love to 'sleep' in and hide, read stories, or have a snack. It also has a tunnel that connects to it, and it's big enough for me to squeeze into! :)Or stories on tape?? If Maddie likes to shake it, Ava likes to sing kareoke! Good luck! I'd love to see you when you're here next! Keep in touch! -Tasha

I love her little pony tails, cant wait til I can do it with Brooklyn's! I can on the top now but not all of it yet... someday :). I don't know how much room you have but my girls LOVE thier sandbox, we've got a little ladybug one, it's probably about the same size as your pool. I've bought buckets and shovels and lots of little toys to keep in it and when I'm outside doing stuff they play in that for hours, I'm not kidding. It's messy sometimes when they don't keep the sand in the sandbox or toss it around but it's totally worth it! E-mail me sometime, my e-mail is in my profile on my blog :)

I think you're on the right track Lauren ... lot's of swimming and popsicles, and it'll be over before you know it. We try and do parks first thing in the morning, then swim or stay cool in the afternoons. These are tough times though, i know. =) I absolutely LOVE Maddie's swimsuit!!!

find out about kids clubs or story times. ava loves those. and playgrounds and parks (sometimes early in the day or late in the day when it's not so hot). we also swim and go to the zoo or kids museums or aquariums. i love having ava as a toddler more than a baby, actually. there's so much more that she can and will do!

You ran out of church so quickly. Just wanted to say hi. Maddie looked adorable in her dress. Kim mentioned to one of her single girlfriends that I was going to introduce your sister to my brother. She showed her a pic from your blog and she recognized her from the singles ward. She said that she doesn't have any problems finding dates. :)

How are you Lauren? You guys are such a cute little family? I struggled with the exact same things when Michael entered toddler-hood. Now we have it down to a science! (Maybe..). But, here are a few suggestions: We try to have weekly things like storytime, playgroup time (it does wonders to be with other moms, and it's good for the kids to learn to play together too), lots of time at the park, etc. I try to take Mike with me to run a few errands everyday, then we usually do something for him - like go to the park or storytime. I also get him to help me unload the dishwasher, put the clothes in the washer, etc. We also love sidewalk chalk, bubbles, play-doh, feeding the ducks, etc. Hope that helps! I definitely can relate to your feelings!

Hi Lauren, it's hard to give you suggestions and not say, let's go do this... but I guess that I'll just have to get used to it unless you guys are willing to move to Michigan. There are a few movie theaters that do free movies during the summer, the one on rainbow does, I used to have a link to know which were playing, I'll have to look. Maddie might be a little bit too little for that this summer though. Story time at our library is fun, or you can go to the one by Jenn's at the outlet mall and ride the carousel afterwards, it's worth the ride. You could get a sprinkler, Maddie loved ours. I agree that having structured times helps, Jenn does preschool/circle time everyday, I think that they sing songs, read stories...

I miss you. What more can I say.
