For FHE Monday night we carved our pumpkin! If any of you know Mike very well, you know he does not do such things half-heartedly. He spent over an hour trying to turn Maddie's face into a carving pattern online. We ended up just using a silhouette (left) because all the shadow gradations were too hard to carve. I think it turned out pretty cool! (Clarification: the top two pictures are just computer renderings of the patterns--the big pic is our real pumpkin!)

We went to a 4-ward Trunk or Treat and Chili Cookoff. It was crowded and crazy, but fun to dress up! Here's the little lady with Daddy the bee...
and Mommy the butterfly!
Have you ever been rendered completely worthless by the power of an unfinished book?!? I have been consumed all week with finishing The Count of Monte Cristo... even sleeping, which I treasure, has been a chore. I am usually a pretty fast reader, but 1462 pages take a lot of effort. I guess a book review would take away from the original intent of this post, so I'll save it for later...

Your pumpkins turned out amazing! Maddie looks so cute in her ladybug costume. What a coincidence that Kaylee was one too! She wasn't lucky enough to have bug parents though.
How cute!! Your costumes are so cute! and your pumpkin is pretty cool too! :)
I think that it is so fun that you were all bugs. Even Mike as a bee. The pumpkins were cool too. We didn't even carve our pumpkins:(
Your little insect family is adorable.
Hey Lauren, we actually live in San Diego now. Dan finished law school in April and had a job lined up here in San Diego. So, we headed even farther West...just in time for the fires. :) I found your blog when I went to Shelley's blog from Melissa's. They lived next door to us in M. Smith our freshman year of college. Melissa and I also went to high school together at Timpview. Ha ha ha. It's such a small world! :) I had wandered so far off the beaten path by the time I arrived at your blog (and my husband teases me all the time for it), that I didn't check out any of your links. Now that I've had a chance to read a few of them, I recognize some names. Boy, I'm going to have a great time exploring your links! :) If you don't mind, I'd love to put a link to your blog on ours. We loved the 4th ward! Do you know if Bishop Chesney is still Bishop? He had been in that calling a long time when we left.
Well, your daughter is precious. Your pumpkin is awesome! Your husband looks like he loves being a daddy to a little girl (I'll bet she has him wrapped around her little finger). And you look absolutely great! Very cute coordinated butterfly costumes!
Oops...I looked closer and it looks like maybe Maddie is a lady bug? Oh, I get it! You're all bugs. Yeah, I'm a little slow. In any case, your costumes are awesome! :)
That is so funny! Mike and Charlie are the same in that he always has to have a pattern to carve. THey are never easy to do either and end up taking the whole night!
Well it looks like Maddie had a good first Halloween! The pumpkin looks great...totally a Mike pumpkin but adorable, although is doesn't give her justice!
Love-Em
By the way you look beautiful in the butterfly costume! :)
Cool pumpkins! You guys are so fun dressing up!
so Lauren managed to make Mike dress like a bee - funny and cute :) great family costume :)
She is so adorable. I love to read your blog and see all the pictures. So glad you do this! I can't wait to meet her someday....
Okay, so the pumpkin was awesome. Only Mike would think about doing that! I see you guys are wearing long sleeves...so we are still pushing 90 here during the day. It frustrates me!!!
