Free Play Time!

My girls do not always get along. Some days (like today) there is a lot of yelling and fighting.... which drives me batty, but I suppose it's a sister thing. But there are times when they have a blast together. I love hearing their sweet voices talking excitedly and making things up.

Summer is great because there is more time to just play. In the past I have been more organized about having learning activities all summer, but I also think there is great benefit to developing imagination and learning how to use free time!

This day I believe they were going on vacation. They packed up their luggage, brought their car keys, filled their purses with 'debit cards' and jewelry, then loaded on an airplane.

When they arrived they paid for their hotel and settled in for a nap.

Ella never lasts long in clothes... soon they had their ballet clothes on and Maddie conducted dance class.

Something I've been letting them do is 'help' chop salads for dinner. They can only use butter knives so carrots don't work very well, but they love chopping lettuce, spinach, zucchini, cucmbers, peppers, etc. and making tiny salads. Now if I could only get them to eat the whole thing.

Ella recently got a 'big girl bike' and she is so proud of it!

Auntie Dana helped her choose this awesome unicorn helmet. It couldn't suit her better.

We spend a whole lotta time riding bikes. Every time the garage opens, they hop on. We also love family bike rides in the evening.

Of course we have gotten out the pool and slide here and there... in this moment I was sitting in a chair in the shade reading a book, Ty was sleeping, and I thought, "I am so grateful they have each other to play with!"

Sometimes we get bored and we do have friends come over to play too. What is it with girls and coloring? They could do it for hours!

They think it's so cool when I move all the chairs around to mop. Usually they play train but this day I think they got a bunch of books out and set up a library.

I tried a new tactic to channel their energy and have them help with chores. I had them throw their dirty clothes down the stairs, and then drag them into the laundry room. They thought that was pretty fun.

The thing that happens most often in down time is dancing. As I've mentioned, Ella is obsessed with tutus and swimsuits and she loves to turn on the keyboard demo songs and prance around the front room. They have started using the window seat as their stage and they hide in the curtains when a song is over. Even Ty loves to join in the dancing.... for now!

Sometimes they even like to wrestle.... which is tons of fun till somebody gets hurt!

Lehi Ranches Preschool Opening!

Here is a shameless plug for our awesome preschool! Ms. Jen has more room in her 3 year old class with Ella. The count down is on here at our house... if anyone else is interested let me know and I will share her information!  (It would be Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-3pm.)

Can't believe school is already on the radar... I am digging my heels in for a little more summer! I'll have to share some pictures soon of the girls' creative play... so cute!

Annual Camping Trip

We are kind of once-a-year campers. With little kids, that's about all I can handle. We joined the Nelson's at Blackhawk in Payson Canyon for one night of fun.

Tyler actually did amazingly well. He took two naps and slept the whole night in his pack n play. He only woke up when our neighboring campers pulled in and set up in the middle of the night.

Unfortunately for Tyler, a thunderstorm passed over right when we pulled up. It was already going to be challenging to keep him clean, but the rain made it downright impossible. You can see what he thought about being held most of the time.

Ella and Maddie were thrilled about getting hot dogs. Camping is about the only thing I will buy them for.

While I made dinner, Ty had to fend for himself.

He got super uper duper shmuper muddy.

Wanna close-up? (Don't worry Dana, I've got Oxy Clean!)

Mama and baby went to get cleaned up, and I tried to get a shot of us with the beautiful backdrop after the rain cleared.

This is my attempt at keeping him clean. A big blanket and tons of goodies should work...

 Yah, not for long.
We loved a new campfire dessert Aunt Rebecca brought... I call it cone-a-licious! Fill a cone with chocolate/butterscotch/PB chips, mini marshmallows, fruit, or nuts, and wrap up in tin foil, Melt for a few minutes in the fire and then gobble!

Rachel brought her horses and we each got a turn to ride in the beautiful mountains.

The girls stayed up late and loved the campfire. Ella told us stories about the big bad wolf.

The next day we went on a hike while breakfast cooked in the dutch oven.

Mike lined all the cousins up and played Charades to keep them entertained while we packed up camp.

Don't worry, our girls always accessorize, even when they're roughing it!

A few more pony rides, and then we were outta there to take showers!

Thunderstorms

I love summer monsoon season. One day last week the sky turned black and the heavens opened. I ran the kids out to the front porch and we wrapped up together in a blanket and watched the rain pour down. It really tickled their funny bone when I told them it was raining cats and dogs, and Maddie sang us a song about it from preschool.

As luck would have it, Ella actually had a swimsuit on. (Big surprise... it's either a swimsuit or a tutu every day.)

The girls loved jumping in the puddles. I have such good memories of doing that with my sisters when we were little, except that we would ride our bikes down the gutters and get soaked head to toe!

These are the things that memories are made of!
