Mommyhood

My friend Melinda tagged me to write 6 interesting things about myself, and since the dominant theme in my life is currently BABY, it seems appropriate to write about my new role as MOMMY!

1. I have learned there is no one right answer. Period. Whatever your concern, ask 5 different people and get 5 different answers. Look in the books or online, same thing. When it comes to parenting, personal experience is everything, so I guess I have to get my own!

2. I love baby eyes. When Maddie was still just a figment of my imagination, I couldn't wait to see her little toes--baby toes are adorable. But now the feature that steals my heart is her eyes...I love her awake time when she looks around, goes cross eyed, and soaks up the world around her. I can't wait to see if they'll be blue!

3. You will never understand how new mothers feel until you are one. Having watched zillions of friends have babies, I thought I knew what I was in for, but when it's your body, your aches and pains, and your responsibility to feed the baby, it's different. Despite our relatively trouble-free transition to life with baby, I have deep appreciation for what women have been doing since the beginning of time. I love being a mom, but I won't lie--it's hard.

4. Everyone tells you to rest--sleep when baby sleeps, take 3 one hour naps a day, don't go anywhere for awhile, etc. etc. This is good advice (and I have tried to take it easy) but the best spirit-booster for me has been doing things! I love going on walks in the sunshine or cooking a good meal. We went to church on Sunday for the 1st time and it made me so happy. I think even if I lost an hour of sleep over it, I'd choose to feel like myself.

5. I love baby clothes! It never fails to thrill me to dress Maddie up in a cute outfit. (Good thing I love them because she has a truckload...and I get to do the laundry.)

6. One of my favorite things about having a baby is watching Mike be a daddy. He adores Maddie, and even that is an understatement. He loves to snuggle with her as much as he used to love to snuggle with me! :) He is very protective of her. He reminded me yesterday to make sure her car seat was snapped in properly when we ran an errand. As if I wouldn't have...I'm the mommy!

There's also a few more pictures for your enjoyment. Maddie seems to be getting chubbier by the minute and has already outgrown newborn sizes. Today she had her first 'big girl' bath since her belly button fell off, and she loved it!!! She didn't make a peep until I took her out and the cold air hit her. She's such a little cutie!

More social engagements...

Mom (Grandma Jensen) loved being here for 2 weeks. She was a regular Cinderella and loved her moments with Maddie. Thanks Mom!
Grandpa Jensen couldn't get enough of the "little peanut." She already has him wrapped around her little finger.
Cole and Shelbe came to visit on Spring Break! It was fun to see Uncle Cole in action, although Shelbe was the one to brave a diaper change...

We can't wait to see more of you at the baby blessing!

Expressions - by Maddie

No, this is not a new fragrance or makeup line from Madison - just a few of the random faces that play fleetingly on the silver screen known as "Her Face."

"I know, I know. Who can resist me with my smashing bow!"

"Sometimes I just like to sit here and think. No diaper changings, no feedings, no burping . . . "

Is that a smile I see before me?

Sweet Innocence!

"Kiss me grandpa!"

"I've suddenly contracted paresthesia of the lower left mandible!"

"Hey dad! How about this one for the photo album?"

"O.K. I'll give you that darling pose you are waiting for."

"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee . . . "

"Cogito ergo sum"
"I think, therefore I am"

"All this attention is enough to make me cross-eyed!"

"Tired anyone?"

"Watch me flex my double chin muscles!"

Alfalfa!

OK GUYS! This is not funny. My grandma got a hold of my hair and the next thing I knew, I was lookin' like that Alfalfa character. She neatly parted the hair and gave me a little tweeker right above my soft spot. I have to say, I look pretty darn cute though. What do you think?

My Aunt Noelle and Uncle Zak came to visit me on Friday. I just love all this attention!

Look at me in my stoller! Mom, Dad, & Grandma took me on my first walk. Las Vegas is really warm right now--we've had a few days hit 90 degrees! Evenings are beautiful, though, and Mom was ready to get out of the house.

This is a picture of me stylin'. My Aunt Dana sent me this denim dress and tons of big bows. My dad says they squeeze my brain but I think they accent my outfits very well. Besides, I wouldn't want people thinking I'm a boy...

Has she really grown 2 inches?

So we went to the pediatrician and found out among other things that Madison is actually 21" long, not the 19" that was measured in the hospital. She had her first sponge bath yesterday and was a little less than excited to be getting drenched with water. She continues to be spoiled by Grandma Jensen who has been waiting to play grandma for a long time. Maddie is picking up on how to feed and loves to snuggle with her dad. We absolutely can not get enough of her!

See below for some new photos.
